On July 17, 1908, the San Mateo Elks Lodge was chartered as the 1,112th Lodge of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. We have a proud history of service to our community, our members and those less fortunate than we. In less than two years, we will complete 100 years as a Lodge of the BPOE.
It is only fitting that we celebrate this auspicious occasion with a series of special events. To this end, Exalted Ruler John Dilks has appointed the following members to a 100th Anniversary Committee to plan and execute these activities:
Although the Committee is considering activities such as sporting tournaments, luncheons, dinner dances, crab feeds, BBQs, we need your help to
define the specifics of what these events should be. The events would be scheduled for the year 2008.
Many of the events would be scheduled for the month of September, when the weather is nice and most people are back from vacation.
We are planning to invite the President of the California-Hawaii Elks Association to be the Principal Speaker at a formal dinner and dance in September.
It has been suggested that we organize a series of District-wide tournaments in softball, tennis, handball, billiards, Pedro, Bridge and bowling.
As a member, what would you recommend?
During the last few weeks, you may have noticed members wearing new polo shirts with the 100th Anniversary logo on them. This is a means of calling your attention to the fact that now is the time to plan for our celebration in 2008! |
